The tradition of building decorated gingerbread houses began in Germany in the early 1800s.

According to some researchers, the information about the first ginger house is that two children who were left in the forest as a result of the fairy tale “Hansel and Gretel” by the famous Brothers Grimm found an edible house made of bread with sugar decorations.

After this book was published, German bakers began cooking ornate fairy-tale houses (gingerbread houses).

These became popular during Christmas, a tradition that came to America with German immigrants from all of Europe and Pennsylvania.
