Uyghurs, who established states in Ötüken (today’s Mongolia) and later in different regions of Central Asia, called Uluğ Türkistan, live in East Turkestan today.
The origin of the name Uyghur is not known exactly. The information given by Kaşgarlı Mahmud about this name is mostly based on folk etymology. Chinese sources mentioning the Uighurs consider them descendants of the Huns and record them as Huiho (flying hawk).
Together with the related tribes, they are called Dokuz Oghuz – Ten Uyghurs. IV-V. They took the name Töles during the Toba State in the centuries. To the Chinese, the Uyghurs were not a large group, but they were very capable and brave; They had high-wheeled (kao-chih) chariots, which they used both in migrations and in wars.
The Töles tribes sitting on the banks of the Selenga and Orhon rivers recognized their sovereignty when the Göktürk State was established.
They lived freely in domestic affairs in the steppes south of Lake Baikal. VII. When the Göktürks were defeated by the Chinese in the 19th century, the Toles troops were disbanded.
