The birth of the alphabet coincides with the birth of writing and dates back to the Sumerians, that is, 5000 years ago. As it is known, this is called cuneiform. In addition to these two alphabet types, there are also two consecutive alphabets, linear A and linear B, originating from the Aegean Islands, still undeciphered, and pre-Columbian South American alphabets originating from the Maya Civilization.

The origin of the modern alphabet is based on the Phoenician alphabet. According to some researchers, the Phoenicians also created this writing system, inspired by Egyptian hieroglyphs.

However, with the Phoenicians, the concept of using a single sound for a single letter emerged. The Phoenician alphabet spread all over the Mediterranean with the help of the Phoenicians being merchants. The alphabets of the Arabs, Greeks, Hebrews, and Latins all derive from the Phoenician alphabet.
