Bears or ursids (Ursidae) are a family of omnivorous mammals. They are large animals, generally omnivorous since, despite their fearsome teeth, they eat fruits, roots and insects, as well as meat.
Depending on the species, they can vary in size and weight. A male polar bear (the largest species of bear) weighs 350 to 700 kg, reaching a length of 2.4-3 m.
When walking, it supports the entire sole of the feet, which is why they are plantigrade animals. In any species of bear, the males are larger than the females.
The smallest bear, the Asian Sun Bear, weighs just 27-65 kilos and is 120-150 meters long.
Its ears, eyes and tail are small. They are covered in long, thick, coarse fur that can be brown, black, white, or spotted. Their bodies are very bulky and robust and are accompanied by short limbs.
Unlike other carnivores, these mammals have teeth that are mostly adapted for a plant-based diet. Polar bear teeth have adapted to their carnivorous needs.
