Why do leaves turn yellow? Because there is not enough light and water for photosynthesis to take place in autumn and winter, the level of chlorophyll in the leaves decreases and other color pigments begin to emerge. These; xanthophyll, which gives yellow color to leaves, carotene, which gives orange color, and anthocyanin, which gives red color.
