Stitch Drawings

Lilo & Stitch, a captivating and fun 2002 Disney animated movie, stands as a modern classic directed by Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders. It’s Disney’s 42nd animated feature.

In it, the Galaxy Federative Union condemns the eccentric Dr. Jumba for illegal experiments creating Experiment 626, a wildly uncontrollable creature. Both the doctor and his creation are exiled, but 626 escapes to Earth, hiding in Hawaii where young Lilo, facing separation from her sister Nani, adopts him as a dog named Stitch.

Initiated by Disney president Michael Eisner’s desire for a cost-effective film, artist Chris Sanders repurposed his character “Stitch” from an abandoned book project. The story’s setting shifted from Kansas to Hawaii, a first for Disney, enriching the narrative with its unique backdrop. Co-directed with Mulan’s Dean DeBlois, the film explores themes of family and belonging in an engaging, unconventional way.
